Good Morning Hawaii

Good morning! The view from my parents' home at an elevation of 2000 feet on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Woke with the sun and the crow of a rooster. The first morning in Hawaii is always an early one. My mom brewed some coffee and once fully awake we were out the door to explore the yard and play with her seven, yes you read that right, 7 dogs (three chihuahua terriers, two baussies, one Australian shepherd, and one black and tan dachsund).

Here is a sampling of the flora growing in my parents' yard—a beautiful rainbow of color.

The rainbow of color picked from the front yard. I counted over 30 varieties of flowers in bloom. It was a relaxing day. My boys are in heaven. Dirt piles, farm chores, no down jackets. Picked mulberries and guava. Tomorrow we'll head to the beach where we'll really thaw out.

When I was a kid I always loved finding patches of sleeping grass. Touch the leaves of this "grass" and they magically close!

I am so envious! What a view. Next time you go, let me know in advance so I can come along. Okay?

Hope you're enjoying Hawaii. We were there last summer and it was amazing, waking up to a spectacular view every morning and perfect weather. Enjoy!!

Oh, I'm so jealous Lexie!!! What a beautiful property your mom has and your boys are going to have a blast playing in the dirt, sand and ocean...a young "pirate's" paradise! :-D

Have fun and enjoy this precious time of rest and relaxation with your family.

I am so incredibly jealous. The pictures set my heart thumping. I am currently trying to climb through the screen at which point I might even have to remove my standard layers of t-shirt, polo shirt, sweater, sweatshirt and really warm man's floor length robe. I might even take the gloves off!
I'm not even going to hope you have a wonderful time because how could you not? You definitely deserve the vacation, the sun, sand, beautiful vistas and love of warmth of both the location and your family. Bottle some of that sunshine for me, okay?

Maggie, Jeanette, Laurel and Heidi,

I feel like you are right here with me : ) I love hearing about your past trips to Hawaii and the fun you had. We are up early again. Banana pancakes for breakfast then off to Waimea and the beach (but not for long ... we are full moon WHITE and I have paid the price of growing up here with 3 basal cell cancers before age 40. Yikes.

Love to all,

What a beautiful view and colourful flowers! I'm definitely very envious. I look outside my window to see drab snow, no alive plants and a lot of salt from the roads. But hey, at least the sun is shining!

Reading backwards. OMG, what an amazing property! I don't know how you stay away. I'd have a hard time leaving that spot. Gorgeous. One of the things that amazed me most in Maui was the flowers. They are all just stunning and readily available everywhere.
